Socrates is perfectly fine with awaiting his execution. So crito presents arguments to convince socrates to escape. No one would worry about public opinion, only listen to wise an expert advice. It only matters if they behave well, not in appealing to other people generally. The only thing that matters is if it is just or unjust for socrates to escape. Breaking one law would be breaking them all. Citizens are bound to laws like a child to a parent. It would cause great harm for socrates to leave, like if a child were to strike a parent. Instead of breaking them, socrates can try to persuade the laws to let him go.
