Week 1: introduction to health promotion and caring, family and community health. Romanticized family is a nuclear one with two loving heterosexual parents and two well- accomplished children. The stigmatized family has a litany of problems usually including poverty, substance abuse, violence, and learning difficulties. It"s important for chns to consider the impact of their own values and beliefs about family and how these may shape the approach they take in collaborating with families. Community health nurses (chns) recognize that improving the health of families is one way to improve the health of communities. A couple living common-law may be of opposite or same sex : this definition alienates people that fall under these categories. Rnao unique and whomever the person defines as being family, can include parents, children, siblings, neighbors and significant people in the community. Rnao says chns should respect and assess individuals in the context of the family as they define it.
