Igor stravinsky: was a ballet that caused a riot! Crazy high bassoon: word-music relationships since this is a ballet, there is no words being sung but. Commissioned by sergei diaghilev"s ballet russes this man commissioned the dancers present movement and gestures that portray the storyline and create images, events, and moods. Ballet emerged as independent genre in late 19th century solo at beginning of the piece: history many composers to write for his ballet and was a keen businessman. Highly novel music caused a famous riot at its premier: key word: polytonal harmonies. Neither tonal (feels like home on a scale that ends on a tonic) or atonal. Juxtaposed multiple tonal centers that work together at the same time and creates effect of polytonality: pentatonic melodies. Many melodies built on a scale called the pentatonic (penta- five note) scale. I"ve seen a score of this piece, and believe me i wouldn"t want to conduct it! .
