Before, during or after birth no known/speci c cause n! Disorder of movement and posture often accompanied by disturbances of sensation, perception, cognition, communication, behaviour, by epilepsy and by secondary musculoskeletal problems occurs in 2-2. 5/1000 live births. Highly variable presentation wide spectrum of severity, comorbidities, functional status. Some children eventually gain all movements (just delayed), others never gain voluntary movement. Although the brain injury is static the manifestations are ever changing. Fatigue, pain, participation restrictions become a major concern. Marked impairment in the development of motor coordination that signi cantly interferes with academic achievement or activities of daily living. May exist in isolation or may co-occur with other conditions such as learning disabilities or attention de cit disorder. Motor skills require effort so children with dcd are often slow to complete tasks at school and may appear inattentive. Children with dcd usually begin to withdraw from and avoid motor and sports activities at an early age.
