Titian was an influential artist from venice during the italien renaissance. Titian followed in the ways of his brother who was a painter as well. When titian was ten years old, he moved to the city of venice to pursue a career in art. When titian arrived in venice he began to train under giovanni bellini and giorgione. Both artists specialized in landscape painting and influenced titian and his style. As well he often collaborated with these artists. After gaining fame, he was commissioned for his first major piece of art, the assumption of the virgin. The painting was well received and led to further commissions (the national gallery). Titian gained most of his fame though from painting portraits of the wealthy. Some of his most notable portraits include those of emperor charles v, pope paul iii, and archbishop filippo. He went on to achieve fame in the genre of mythological paintings as well.
