Week 2 models of disability: exam terminology. Biopsychosocial model disability arises from a combination of physical, emotional, and environmental factors. Continuum model there is a continuum from "non-disabled" to "disabled". Economic model disability is seen as a person"s inability to work. Empowering model the person decides and selects what services they want. Expert/professional model role of the fixer and the fixed - there is inequality which limits collaboration. Medical/deficit model disability is seen as residing within the individual, while something is wrong and must be corrected. Models of disability tools for defining and labelling impairment. Moral model people are morally responsible for their own disability and it is a result of the bad actions of the individual"s parents. Rehabilitation model based on the medical model and the belief that w/ adequate effort on part of the person, disability can be overcome. Rights-based model focuses on the fulfillment of human rights.
