Disability is validated as something that affects everyone. The level of function is focused on more when compared to the medical diagnosis. Mental illness is put at the same level as disability. A political choice, sometimes connected to disability pride. Society disables them making them disabled people. Are in play (constant competition over power to define) The problem comes when doctors determine not only the form of treatment, but the form of life. The undue emphasis on clinical diagnosis leads to partial understanding that narrows the scope of life. Linton views it more than remedial or corrective. Linton imagines impairment & disability as distinct & that there is no neutral experience of impairment because of societal barriers and stigma. Time spent on medicine and cures is time not spent on self acceptance, and learning to live with dignity now. It is problematic because it is an organization of doctors and has no control over governments.
