Aga: chapter 5: the sites of the crown games. If particular event becomes a part of one of these games, then you start to see it elsewhere in the greek world. These games drive what is athletics and what is competition in the greek world. They called these 4 games the period (periodos) = something that comes full circle: all greeks could compete in all of these games. The games never overlapped in time so that everyone could compete. Isthmian and nemean games were competed in more and because of this, if you won at these competitions it was less prestigious because they were most popular: olympics most prestigious attracted the best athletes. Know this because on tombstones of athletes, they will depict the symbols of these 4 games, whichever one they were involved in. If they were in the olympics they would have this symbol first. Each game had its own symbol: olympics < pythian < nemean.
