Civil and Environmental Engineering 2224 Study Guide - Final Guide: Fluid Mechanics, Stagnation Pressure, Reynolds Number
Document Summary
In order to analyse problems involving fluid motion, we must consider the fact that the fluid itself is actually displacing. One way to consider this is to visualize the fluid"s flow patterns. We can do this visualization by thinking of a fluid as being composed of many individual particles each consisting of a small mass of fluid. There are two visualizations that we are conventionally used: This tracks the individual particles as a function of time. This considers the flow properties in a given space. This relies on taking a simple dynamics approach to every particle in a fluid. This approach is difficulty to use in practice because there are so many different particles that need to be described and we therefore rarely use it in modern fluid mechanics. In this approach, we describe flow properties such as pressure, velocity and acceleration, as fields.
