The peptide bond, which links amino acids together to form proteins. Look at the structure of the molecule at an atomic resolution. Flow of information ( replication) dna --transcription--> rna --translation-->protein. Proteins are all polymers of amino acids based on the genetic code. Dna can encode 20 different amino acids to make up proteins. Mrna have triplets called codons that denotes a particular amino acid trna have anti-codons that match with the codon on the mrna and they carry the amino acid that gets added on the chain. There are 20 amino acids in 4 different groups. The properties of the side chains determine a protein"s character. Note: hydrogen may be lost when it is on a side group and changes the charge of the group (gains a negative charge) Glycine only has a hydrogen as its side group.
