Immanuel kant (1724-1804: wrote a phamplet "perpetual peace". In this book he argues that countries with a. 2 schools of thought in democratic peace theory: political culture. Leaders have to get re-elected, convince cabinet etc. Democrat vs democrat?-> people don"t like to go to war with others like themselves. 1432 - for the first time wealthy landowners were allowed to vote. 1880"s - additional reform acts (by the end north of 60% of population could vote) 1914-1920 - end of ww1 virtually all men were granted voting rights. 1918 - older educated, or married women granted voting rights. 1928 - all men & all women 18+ granted voting rights. Most of the top 15 armed war prone countries in the world after ww2 today are democratic countries fighting non-democratic countries. Democracies have a tendency of crusading trying to spread their democratic values (remember kant opposing using force to spread democracy)
