Introduction to criminal law (cri225) 2017 2018 fall-winter term. What were the arguments from the crown and defense: what was the verdict, a clearly written summary of the decision itself, how did the supreme court come to the decision it did in (eg. r v butler?) The aim is clarity in thought and writing. First case summary due in class sept 28. The dialogue thesis: exists to offset the perception that the supreme court gets the last word on the law. Exists to create a new law that is compliant with the constitution. You could argue that mechanically or moral perspective. The case you pick must be a matter of criminal law: do not choose bedford. Every law is an obstacle of your perfect freedom, the government must service you, therefore every law must have a justification for : the safety of the individual, and the flourishment and protection of society.
