Some become protagonists in popular movies and books even in lyrics. We are fascinated by deviance, crime and violence -> fascinating and endless. Common sense and pop culture tell us what makes people bad characters and outlaws -> crossed. Deviance rests in the reactions of observers deviant because individual, group or society. Usually thought of as a certain type of behavior need not be the case; can include both. Sociologists and criminologists focus on questions concerning definition, incidence, patterns: deviance and crime is defined, counted and descried -> male / female dominant, people deem worshiping satan or wanting communism as deviant. Defining deviance: takes offence and reacts negatively ideas and attributes attributes can also be source of shunning and rejection. Can be unaware of it or deny it.
