Dominant view: personality emerges early and continues to change in meaningful ways throughout the lifespan. Most personality development occurs in childhood, and personality is stable by the end of adolescence. Lifespan perspective of personality: based on the plasticity principle personality traits are open systems that can be influence by the environment at any age. Active period of personality development appears to be between the ages of 20-40. There is experience in life that may cause changes after lifetime. Going to uni/college: entering the world of work, entering into committed relationships. Don"t look at other factors contributing to it. No clear markers to denote start or finish of a stage. Deviations from norm may mistakenly be seen as maladjustment. Looked at the transitions to see how it can impact one"s personality development.
