Document Summary

Concepts are like building blocks for general knowledge. Ex a dog is definitionally a mammal with 4 legs that barks and wags its tail. You would still think of it as a dog. Ludwig wittgenstein theorized that simple concepts have no definition. Consider a game : it is played by children, engaged in for fun, has rules, is competitive etc. There are exceptions to each of these definitions: gambling (not for children), professional sports (not for fun), has rules (lego is a game without rules), is competitive (a tea party isn"t competitive) An idea of how we create concepts is through family resemblance. Members of a category have a resemblance to the family. Ex a person could have different hair colour, no glasses etc, and still be a family member. Therefore, back to the example: a dog probably has 4 legs, probably barks and probably wags its tail. A creature without these features is unlikely to be a dog.
