Very difficult for any individual to alter. Depends on the action of a particular individual or random event. Instances in which state or political regime is overthrown by a popular movement in an irregular fashion. Other characteristics include: quite common, often peaceful, sometimes result in democracy, often has no impact. Rapid, fundamental, and often violent transformation of a country"s state structure, social structure, that is accompanied by a mass-based revolts from below. Other characteristics include: transformation of social structure (class/religion, states transformation, destruction of old army + creation of a new one, radical rejection of past, almost never result in democracy, extremely uncommon. This is because there is a more of a focus on survival, lack of resources for rebellion, and expectations that make poverty seems like a fact of life. (impt scholar: trotsky) Marxist theory is twofold: class based analysis, the change it brings is often violent and conflictual.
