However, this concept of witchcraft provides them with an explanation by which the relations between men and unfortunate events happen. If a wife is unresponsive to her husband, it is witchcraft. Witchcraft plays a part of the zande life in every activity. The zande link every misfortune to witchcraft unless there is strong evidence that some other evil agent has been at work, a breach of a taboo, failure to observe a moral rule, or because of inability. To us, witchcraft is bad but the zande expect to come across is every day at any time. He would actually be surprised if he didn"t encounter it. When a misfortune happens, they are not surprised or terrified by supernatural forces, rather they are annoyed. Anyone could be a witch, their neighbor, sister, brother, even themselves.
