Media literacy are become more implemented in many school boards - curriculum. Grade 11 english language arts class who has learned how to critically analyze advertisements compared to a demographically matched control group who did not learn to do so. 293 students taught by 7 different teachers. Learned to analyze the purpose of advertisements, target audience, point of view, and persuasive techniques used. Compared to control group, these students learned about the pre-production process of advertising. This resulted in significant differences in students ability to analyze print ads, identify target audience, describe construction techniques to attract and hold attention, and ability to identify the implied message in the subtext. Media literacy - the expanded conceptualization of literacy that includes print, audio, visual, electronic messages from contemporary culture. Empirical research has not examined the impact of increased knowledge of advertising production processes - it may affect critical thinking skills in responding to advertising messages.
