Four main types of theories in sociology: structural functionalism- Everything has a purpose, eg. fashion trends enable social inequality. Helps maintain social class, which is a position people occupy in a hierarchy that is shaped by economic criteria such as wealth and income: conflict theory- Theory is the conjecture about the way observed facts are related. This theory highlights the tension underlying an existing social arrangement and the capacity of these to cause social change. To maintain social equilibrium (maintaining social order by rebelling against something that is unfair- tuition freeze: symbolic interactionism- Conveys how social symbols convey meaning and assist in communication.
