The inferior and superior colliculi are different structure that play a role in the processing of either visual or auditory information. The nature of communication between the cortex and thalamus is instructive in the nature - when the cortex receives information, it is likely engaging in process that result in the conscious perception of sensory information. This is generally studied with small babies, because we see lack of maturity in. Limbic system regulates autonomic and endocrine function, particularly in response to emotional stimuli. Limbic system is also tightly linked to our sensory system, especially to our smell, because smell is usually associated with emotional response. Basal ganglia controls voluntary movements and emotions, it includes striatum that is involved in motor system and contains caudate nucleus (telling us what to do) and putamen (coordinating behaviour).
