Psych as a field of study we look at these terms: Themes: psychology is empirical, psychology is theoretically diverse, psychology evolves in a sociohistorical context. Subject matter: behavior is determined by multiple causes, behavior is shaped by cultural heritage, heredity and environment jointly influence behavior, people"s experience of the world is high subjective. Empiricism is the premise that knowledge should be acquired through observation. A theory is a system of interrelated ideas used to explain a set of observations. Culture refers to the widely shared customs, beliefs, values, norms, institutions, etc. of a community that are transmitted socially across generations. An experimental study must have a controlled study that uses random assignment to control variables (except for the independent variables which are manipulated by the researcher).
