Document Summary

Aristotle: for aristotle, property means things such as land and wealth. In order for humans to have a good, or ideal life, they must have 3 things: goods of the body, goods of the soul, and lastly external goods. As happiness (or eudaimonia) is the greatest good for aristotle, it is important for humans to have all three things in order to live a life and strive to achieve the the happiest life possible. As external goods are a necessity for humans to have a good life, we can draw that property (being an external good) is also necessary and good for individuals. Aristotle makes it clear that virtues still take predominance as you must use your virtues or goods of the soul in order to obtain these external goods. Locke: locke believes that property is something that although was created common by god, is something that we need to appropriate and be able to denote as our own.
