Document Summary

Heavily structured towards course material after the mid-term but still review everything. Ocean carbon pump oceans ability to draw down co2 from atmosphere and put it into ocean. Driven by having more co2 in atmosphere than in the ocean. Stable vs meta-stable: stable has some disturbances but goes back to original state, metastable has some disturbances but becomes stable however does not go back to original state. Dimictic lakes year cycle [mixes twice a year: in spring the water is well mixed, oxygen level and temperature levels are the same, in the summer, the sunlight hits the lake, heating the lake. But most of the light does not penetrate any deeper, so most of the sunlight heats the surface of lake. In winter the ice cover prevents oxygen to go to bottom of lake causing a lack of o2: summer is the season with most carbon intake. In fall there is a outpouring of co2.
