Learning: relatively permanent change in behavior that results from practice or experience: associated with behaviorism can be described w/o recourse to internal events, theories of behavior must be based on direct observations of actual behavior. 4 types of learning: habituation: decreased in response to repeated or continued stimulation i. e habituation to house noises, there are certain situations that pose a threat and cause high levels of stress (can result in minimal/non-visible reaction) Disadvantages lengthy process to obtain data, attrition (ppl dropping out of the study), costly, instruments become outdated over the study, practice effects (get used to the diagnostic tests and show improvement but skew results) Basic principle respect for human dignity; respect for participants wellbeing; free, informed, and ongoing consent.
