Metaphysics: 1st principles of things; abstract concepts: being, knowing, cause, identity, time, free will etc. Epistemology: theory of knowledge, regard to its methods, validity, scope- investigate what distinguishes justified belief from opinion. Morality: principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong: master kong (confucius) Confucius did not leave behind any written works- in his time communication as mainly verbal. Writing fits a statement- conversation is more fluid. Confucius"s followers preserved some of his beliefs in writing. Lunyu: selected sayings that occur within a conversation or a dialogue: analects or analects of confucious. Each has a large number of brief passages, some only 1-2 sentences. Jilu asked how one should serve the gods and spirits.
