Hss2102 communication & health. !basic assumptions: communication in a complex process, there is a transaction of actions/words. Socioeconomic status: motivation and intention, life experiences, values, moral code, and philosophy. !five fundamental principles of communication: !william james" three components to self: Material: tangible elements: social: personal and social interactions, spiritual: values, morals, and beliefs. Stage 2: organizing: converting information into understandable patterns, allows us to make sense of what we have observed. Stage 3: interpreting: assigning meaning to what we observe. !self- fulrilling prophecy: notion that predictions about your future are likely to come true because you believe that they will. You will act in a way that makes your prediction more likely. !primacy recency: recalling the rirst chunk of info and the opposite. Ex: jane is smart, funny, Rit, loud, noisy obnoxious vs. jene is obnoxious, loud, noisy, rit, funny, and smart. !consistency: the tendency to maintain balance amongst your perceptions or attitudes.
