Anatomy is the study of the structure and function of the body, and is one of the oldest basic medical sciences. It studies shape, size, location, and function of the structures of the human body. The body can be divided into several regions: head/neck, upper limb, thoraz, back and abdomen, pelvis/perineum, and lower limb. These rst 3 systems make up the locomotor system. The anatomical position is accepted as standing erect, head, eyes, and toes directed anteriorly,upper limbs by the side with the palms facing anteriorly, and lower limbs close together with feet directed anteriorly. There are 4 types of anatomical planes: median, sagittal, coronal, and transverse. Median: vertical plane passing longitudinally through the body(right and left halves). Sagittal: vertical planes passing through the body parallel to the media plane. Frontal/coronal: vertical planes passing through the body as right angles to the median plane, dividing it into anterior and posterior portions.
