Ex. detailed data from pos terminals; transactional data (banks, mobile services, ); filtered data from crm, supply chain, & enterprise resource planning applications; clickstream data from web & e-commerce applications; medical record, medical images. Data have become central & vital to orgs: orgs. need to manage their data assets very carefully to make sure that data are easily accessed by managers & employees across org. If you don"t act on your data in a timely manner (if data is more than 30 days old,) then you can"t operate at your best: essence of time is crucial. Principle of data in context: when you take data & manipulate it, you need to be actual, ex. market basket analysis. Data is created & used offline w/o going thru quality control checks. Data may be redundant & out-of-date, creating a huge maintenance problem.
