Possible solution: most of the time, it is not self-evident. Is it (inequality) the natural condition of humankind: could make a strong argument that yes it is. If we fancy ourselves as progressive societies, we need institutions in place to ensure that equality prevails. If you want to operate as a stable regime, you must adopt a system of equality: there is no way to deny this, prudence, treating someone as sub-human was wrong, acceptability. What, then, is a democracy: five criteria to be met in order to be a democracy: Effective and open participation: nobody is prohibited from going to the ballot box, have been prevented in the past along gender, racial, income lines, concealed discrimination. Voting equality: decide who they want to represent them, one person one vote. Enlightened understanding: people who are going out there and participating politically ought to be informed.
