First, he discovers 1) stability of suicide rates, 2) disproportionate number of suicides occurred in summer. Then, he started to explore the role of age, gender, religion, etc. Finds that predominantly protestant countries had consistently higher suicide rates than catholic countries -> religion plays a signi cant role in suicide! Finally, he combines religion with political turmoil. Suicides are a product of anomie, normlessness, or a general sense of social instability and disintegration.
