Hlth 201 - midterm 1 study notes - october 5th, 2015. Geriatrics is the branch of medicine or social science that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of health problems of older people. Gerontology is the study of old age, the process of aging and the problems older adults face. Population aging is a shift of population age composition towards the older ages: resulted from decreases in fertility and increases in le, global phenomenon but progresses fastest in developing countries. Individual aging is the progression and maintenance of one"s life from infancy to old age. Canada"s population is changing in terms of absolute number as well as the proportion of older adults are expected to increase. Demographic transitions summarize the historical dynamics that have lead to changes in the population. Epidemiological transition describes the changes in causes of death for that population.
