Chapter 1: human development across the life span. Development: the sequence of age-related changes from born-death: the prenatal period (conception-birth, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, begins with conception occurs when fertilization happens. Zygote: one celled organism formed when sperm meets egg. All other cells in body are developed from this one cell. This prenatal period goes from conception-birth (9 month prego). You grow at a fast pace during this phase. Forms body parts: vulnerable stage physiological structures are being formed. Teratogens: external shit like drugs or viruses that harm embryo or fetus. Prego smack heads give birth to already addicted babies -> increased risk of early death (prematurity, birth defects, etc. ) Fetal alcohol syndrome: collection of inborn problems due to a juice bag mom during pregnancy. Symptoms include a small ass head, heart defects, irritability, hyperactivity, just stupid. Children who fall short of fas may still show syndromes. Tobacco use has risks too like miscarriage, prematurity, sudden infant death syndrome, stupidity.
