Very few defence cases are about murder and rape. Usually don"t contact a lawyer until after the police has been involved. Lay charges against you: a formal accusation that they believe you have committed a crime. Must provide you notification of the charges they have laid against you. Canada (requirements: they have to notify you to your right to counsel, caution (charges) They do not want the miranda rules in canadian soil: interrogations. Cannot consult with a lawyer a second time during an interrogation. Conditions: only under an arrest or detainment. Innocuous questions: police can ask these once you invoke your right to counsel, they can ask you questions about your name, address before talking to lawyer. Interrogations are now more intrusive by police. Police are allowed to lie (tell you they have evidence against you: people may falsely confess to crimes if police say they have evidence.
