Deviance is the abc stuff that in particular context causes someone not only to be condemned for breaking the rules but to be seen as a bad person. Crime and deviance are not the same but they do overlap. Goode"s view of deviance: behavior, attitudes or characteristics that some people in a society find offensive or reprehensible and generates disapproval. Goode takes the middle called soft reactivist : because it acknowledges that the public reaction is the most important part. It has the strengths of both the extreme normative and extreme reactive. 2) imaginary deviance: predictability, and a difference between societal deviance and situation deviance. Societal deviance: breaking the norms of the overall society, the consensus of the vast majority. Situational deviance: some things that break social norms are accepted in certain situations, and some social norms are not acceptable in certain situations- like wearing clothes on a nude beach.
