Document Summary

Measurement: the act of assigning numbers or symbols to characteristics of things according to a set of rules. Scale: a set of numbers whose properties model the properties of the objects with which the numbers are assigned. On this scale 0 has a meaning within the scale that does not mean nothing, instead it is part of the scale. ex. temperature: ratio scales: these scales contain equal intervals between numbers with a true zero point. Frequency distribution: show how often a particular score occurred within the data. Column 2: frequency number of people who gave this score. 2: central tendency where a distribution is centered. Mean: the average score, which takes into account all data points in a distribution. Sum of all the scores divided by the number of scores. Advantages: mathematical manipulations + generally a more stable estimate of the central tendency of population.
