Circumstance/barriers contributing to food security include: tuition is expensive, high cost of rent, cost of food, not enough loans/grants, limited knowledge/time to prepare foods, limited access to grocery stores, limited facilities to prepare foods. Adversely impact on mental and physical health. Psychological health-> being worried about your next meal. Students: decreased concentration, energy levels, gpa scores. Energy, micronutrient intake if relying on emergency food services like food banks, they don"t have the best nutritive quality so it can lead to deficiencies. Rates of food insecurity are twice the amount on first nations reserves. Communities are wanting to learn more from their elders and have more access to traditional foods, they don"t want to be dependant in grocery stores but on the more traditional food systems. Brings the communities together (positive lifestyle change)
