It was known for its excellent system of pipes and aquaducts distributing water trough the city and had some of the healthiest and freshest water. The wealth of the city came from the thrice-yearly trade fairs in which they are still famous for. The visitors enriched the tradesmen, merchants, innkeepers, and coffeehouses creating brinks of entertainment. The university was a great help to the community as well. Coffee was a recent import from the east and by the late 1600 there was a coffee craze in europe and america.
