Growth & development: as a unit express the sum of the numerous changes that take place during the lifetime of an individual. Maturation: an increase in competence and adaptability; aging, usually used to describe qualitative change, a change in the complexity of a structure that makes it possible for that structure to being functioning; to function at a higher level. These processes all depend on sequence of endocrine, genetic, constitutional, environmental, and nutritional influences. There are predictable patterns in growth and development that are continuous, orderly, and progressive.
