Musi 303: world beat and ethnic pop midterm. It is a european period lasting from 1750 to 1825. Classical music, however, is technically not from this era, composers such as beethoven are considered to be from the classical period, but they aren"t. Classical became a marketing term that western companies use to describe western composers relating to that era. The scholarly definition if that it is any and all music that was created under institutional patronage of the monarchy or church: folk. The definition of folk music according to the record companies is a genre of music consisting of just a musician and a guitar. The scholarly definition is that folk music is the music of the people for things such as festival celebrations, it is non-professional music: popular. There are many genres in popular music such as rock, metal, country and hip-hop.
