What is a cult, it"s a group with belief system that is peculiar in that particular culture, includes harm, statistical rarity and normative violation. A group that causes harm can affect their image: societal reaction- large numbers of people in society respond negatively to something (like polygamy). Reaction of polygamy will vary in different settings: normative violation breaking socially acceptable and expected behaviours (dress) But in the middle east, soldier"s norms are to murder someone that has opposite beliefs. 1 absolutist-something is inherently and universally deviant (pog11)- incest, murder etc. Each society has its own moral codes, a lot of deviance becomes located in cuoltures. However, culture is very broad, there is a broad agreement that harm should not be done.
