Experience conscious awareness: memory, attention, language, thought, perception, all arises from physical, chemical, and physiological. Interdisciplinary: anth, econ, ling, cs, phli, bio, psych, neuro. Biological basis of mental phenomena: rigorously controlled experiments, mechanistic models, cognitive psych. It wasn"t always thought that the mind"s place was in the brain. In ancient egypt, they believed that the mind was in the heart and not in the brain. When people got mummified, they would throw the brain away and keep the heart. Some info people did know that cognition had to do with the brain as we have evidence of people drilling into the brain. For example, doctors knew that a little hole in the brain would relieve some symptoms of trauma. Gall and spurzheim used feeling bumps on people"s head to infer mental processing. They had lots of weird constructs like sublimity .
