In the f1 hybrid the chromosomes do not have any homologous pairing partners to pair with during prophase i. During meiosis the chromosomes will pair randomly and there won"t be any gametes that are n=9 and have exactly one copy of every gene. In raphanobrassica each chromosome can pair with its duplicate copy. In this way all the radish chromosomes can pair with another radish chromosome and all the cabbage chromosomes can pair with another cabbage chromosome.
