Psyc 102 - lecture 1 - intro to psyc 102. Problem - simple definition but assumes something that doesn"t exist - assumes that mind is actually a real thing. There is no way to physically go into skull & take out part called mind . Mind - result of processing of brain. First language will influence way you think. What is considered normal - socially constructed. If something cannot be measured, it is not part of scientific psychology. Psychological capacities evolve (in a sociohistorical context) Our behaviour is shaped by our cultural heritage. Our experience of the world is highly subjective. Freud - stuff that can be recalled. We came into world striving to be best we can be. Self actualization - living 100% successfully w/ aspirations, no regrets, no bitterness, If we are to be best we can be, we have motivation to grow & self actualization having achieved best you can. Reinforced behaviour more likely to be repeated.
