This also confused historians due to there being numerous names for 1 group of people. Hs: the european settlers showed the rst peoples no respect. Hs: it may not have been intentional, ignoring the identity of an entire population and applying a name that was derogatory in nature was extremely disrespectful. Dekanawidah and hiawatha: were known as the peacemakers. Formed congress and the constitution is testimony to how civilized they were and how they weren"t savages. Hs: the colonists treated land as commodity or resource to be taken advantage of and exploit whereas the natives, with the formation of their congress and constitution, treated land as a shared home for all. Some historians believe that information from oral tradition is credible, while other historians are more critical of it.
