Aristotle, nicomachean ethics, books viii and ix response. In these readings it"s based more on friendship, within these books friendship is necessary and splendid, but people can"t agree on what it truly is. There are three types of friendship; one that is based off of utility, the second is based on pleasure, and the third is based on goodness. Expanding on these friendships is quite easy, the friendship that is based off of utility is basically when both of the people in the friendship get some sort of benefit from each other. Goodness though is one of the several enduring qualities, these types of friendships usually last longer than the other two. This is mostly based off of book viii, but ix expands on this topic, and delves into how friends that grow apart cannot remain friends, they only consider it as a former friendship.
