Dictate accepted norms for body weight, shape and attitudes towards tattoos, piercings etc. Influenced by the way others view a person"s body and the feedback offered. Violent husband might tell his wife she is ugly and over time she may incorporate this image into her self concept. Mental images are not always congruent with actual physical self. Feelings around this can differ depending on day or illness. Affected by cognitive growth and physical development (puberty, menopause, hormonal changes, aging) Role performance: the way in which individuals perceive their ability to carry out significant roles (parent, child, spouse, employee, student etc. ) Roles that individuals follow in given situations involve socialization to expectations. Changes in role performance can alter role relationships.
