Authentic american music = made by 1st peoples and african slaves (re-created a culture in a new world) Indigenous peoples: descendants of original inhabitants of a place that was colonized by others. United nations declaration on the rights of indigenous peoples (undrip): combating discrimination and marginalization of indigenous people. Indigenous: being native to a certain place (plants, animals) Have specific set of rights based on historical ties to a territory. Refers to the pre-european contact peoples who populated the americas. Aboriginal: being native to a certain place (people only); refer to customs, self-identification. Sovereignty: right and power of a body to govern itself without interference from outside sources or bodies.
