70 views4 pages

Document Summary

The ability to produce sound & simple vocal patterning appears to be in an ancient part of the brain. In most religions there is a divine source that provides humans with language. Basic assumption is that if human infants do not hear any kind of language then they will speak in the god-given language. Very young children living without access to human language grow up with no language at all. Human auditory system is already functioning before birth, this develops into an ability to identify sounds in the environment, allowing humans to make a connection between sound and the thing producing the sound. Words that sound similar to the noise they make is called onomatopoeia. We might be doubtful about a view that seems to assume that language is only a set of words used as names for things. Proposed that speech developed from the natural sounds people make in emotional circumstances.
