Mental health: health, stress and coping: explain the physiological basis of the stress response. Stress happens when we encounter external and internal stressor. This is similar to our (cid:271)odies(cid:859) fight o(cid:396) flight (cid:396)espo(cid:374)se (cid:449)hi(cid:272)h allo(cid:449)s us to (cid:396)espo(cid:374)d to threats. For example, when we hear loud noise, our body jerks and start to produce adrenaline. We are alert and our senses are amplified order to determine danger that promotes physical and social survival. Stress cause our body to react the same way as the fight and flight response. When we judge an event to be stressful, such as the midterm, the hypothalamus is activated, we then engage in a fight and flight response in order cope with the stress. For example, our heart beat faster to get us ready to engage in physical activity such as fleeing: what is the general adaptation syndrome.
