My name is omar patel and i am writing this letter to seek change within the aboriginal community regarding mental health. What i am writing this letter for is for action and help for the aboriginal people. A close friend of mine had committed suicide and it shattered my life and my view on life into pieces. Everyone around him could not believe it and nor do i still but that is the issue with mental health, it is usually kept in and ignored even though the person may want to scream for help. According to heretohelp, a government funded nonprofit organization dedicated to helping mental and substance abuse, the inuit suicide rates are horrifically high at 6 to 11 times the canadian average. These statistics are proof that just the suicide rates are an issue to be reckoned with and addressed. Another question you might as is why should you care about this issue.
